The world average gasoline price marched $0.46 per gallon higher between January and May. This trend was arrested in June thanks to a reversal in crude oil prices. Behind this average is a wide range of prices including nations heavily subsidizing motorists such as Venezuela, as well as oil producer Norway where extreme fuel taxes result in motorists paying $7.46 gal.

On January 1, 2020, sulfur content in ships' fuel must be slashed and the costs will affect commerce and consumers globally. While far higher prices for bunker are a given, the U.N. reg is also spawning fears of higher on-road diesel prices. This report probes some of the many unknowns about supply, compliance, and impact upon refineries.
